11/05/2019 AIHL Adelaide Adrenaline v Newcastle Northstars 3-10

Selected photos of the AIHL game between Adelaide Adrenaline and Newcastle Northstars played on 11/05/2019 at the Ice Arena.  The Adrenaline were looking for their first home win and had made a change in backup goalie with young goalie Jeremy Friederich putting on the big pads and holding the big stick.  The Northstars would get a powerplay opportunity at 13:44 when Adrenaline’s Steve Best would get pinged for slashing.  They wasted no time and scored a minute later when import Dominik Gabaj scored, assisted by import Francis Drolet.  Adrenaline’s Alex Gauthier got caught for a delayed hit at 8:52 which Northstars’ Drolet would use to score with the man advantage.  The assists coming from import Sammy Banga and Tomas Landa.  Late in the period at 2:12 the Adrenaline would reduce the deficit to 1 when Harley Anderson scored in close after assists from Marcel McGuinness and crowd favourite Ales Kratoska.  A later penalty to Gauthier for interference did not result in a goal.  Shots on goal for the period were a massive 25 to the Northstars to Adrenaline 6.

The second period was characterised by the Northstars outmuscling and outclassing the Adrenaline as they worked their way past the Adrenaline defence posting 4 goals with the Adrenaline failing to score and the game getting out of reach at 6-1.  Goalscorers being Landa, Gabaj, import Ondrej Smach and Gabaj again.  Richard Tesarik would feature heavily with 3 assists.  The Adrenaline didn’t help their cause having 3 penalties, Josef Rezek for tripping and a 3-on-5 disadvantage when both import Kyle Neuber (roughing) and Marcel McGuinness (slashing) went at the same time.  Shots on goal saw the Adrenaline even the Northstars at 14 a piece.

After a quick fire goal scored only 26secs into the period Neuber got some early momentum for the Adrenaline.  However the last period was ugly as the game descended into a penalty fest.  Six penalties resulted for the Adrenaline, Anderson for hooking at 11:15, and then crucially at 6:54 saw three of their players take a breather as Neuber served a double minor for roughing and Kratoska joined him for interference.  Northstars goalie Dayne Davis unimpressed with Neuber would be called for roughing.  Hamish Powell sat out his penalty.  The Northstars had managed to consistently add a goal every few minutes to extend their lead further, however Josef Rezek would add one goal to the Adrenaline tally, unassisted.  Adrenaline’s Best got a penalty for tripping and the Northstars would add their 10 goal with the powerplay.   After this more penalties were handed out to Rezek, as he had a major disagreement with Northstars David Ferrari.  After telling Rezek 7 times he was heading for the penalty box, linesman Mitch Brown had to bear hug Rezek and shove him towards the box.  Ferrari would serve a double minor for roughing and misconduct.  Northstars Jayden Ryan had a late penalty for tripping.  Overall shots of goal were a massive 55 for 10 goals to the Northstars, and Adrenaline 26 shots for 3 goals.  After a 8-2 win on Sunday the Northstars now sat on top of the table, with the Adrenaline at the other end.
