09/06/2019 AIHL Adelaide Adrenaline v Melbourne Ice 1-3

Selected photos from the AIHL game between Adelaide Adrenaline and Melbourne Ice played at the Ice Arena, Adelaide on 09/06/2019.  Both teams were looking to kick start their season from their lower positions on the ladder.  The Ice had added last year Adrenaline import goalie Sebastian Anderson to their lineup but keeping friendships intact he wouldn’t be on the ice tonight.  Instead James Downie would be between the pipes.  For the Adrenaline it would be import goalie Jesse Gordichuk.  With Kyle Neuber out on suspension, the Adrenaline added import Jamie Holland, and also local Adam Wise.  The Ice would score the only goals of the period, to Kasey Kulczycki (at 11:24), assisted by Jim Piotrowski and Jesse Schwartz, and the second at 1:14 to Darcy Flanagan, reversinbg the assists.  Penalties were Ice’s Piotrowski for interference at 8:52, Adrenaline’s Ales Kratoska for tripping at 7:14 and Ice’s Jermaine (Kahu) Joyce at 0:30 for a late hit.  The Adrenaline bench became frustrated with what appeared to be some unduly rough play not penalised.   Shots on goal were Ice 12 for 2, Adrenaline 6 for 0.

The second period didn’t bring any goals, but had plenty of penalties as the play got even rougher and desperate.  Slashing penalties were handed out to Adrenaline’s Marcel McGuinness (at 15:00) and Zach Boyle (at 12:29) and a trip to Marcel again at 1:53.  The Ice in turn had Jesse Schwartz put in the box at 9:38 for roughing and Mackenzie Curuana for slashing with 7secs left in the period.  Shots on goal were Ice 15, Adrenaline 5.

The 3rd 20min long period saw the Adrenaline get one back at import Jamie Holland managed to squeeze one past the Ice goalie, not bad for his first home game appearance.  The single assist coming from Steve Best.  This resurgence was short-lived as the Ice struck back at 10:07 and the 3-1 scoreline in favour of the Ice would remain for the rest of the game.  As the crowd had seen the tension building during the game, it finally came to ahead at the 10 minute mark when they would witness Ice’s Jermaine (Kahu) Joyce and Alex Gauthier dropping the gloves for a dust-up.  Both players ended up in the sin bin with 5min majors for fighting and 20min game misconducts.   The Adrenaline would now be without 2 key imports for the next game.   Shots on goal for the game were Ice 44 for 3 goals, Adrenaline outclassed 19 for 1 but at least having a much closer scoreline.
