23/11/2019 AWIHL Adelaide Rush v Brisbane Goannas 7-1

Some of the photos from the AWIHL game between the Adelaide Rush and Brisbane Goannas played at the Ice Arena on the 23/11/2019.  The Rush were looking at continuing their fine form after 4 wins on the trot, while the Goannas were looking at making inroads on the ladder.  In goals for the Rush was Jo Phillis, and Taylah Pearson for the Goannas.  Both teams held each other scoreless for a long time despite the Rush hammering the Goannas goalie Pearson.  Roughing penalties were handed out to Rush’s import Sasha Lutz and Goannas Dannielle Roberts at 17:11 but this gave no advantage to either team.  It wasn’t until 8:53 remaining Sharnita Crompton of the Rush would open the scoring after assists from Tess Reynolds and import Olivia Cook.  A late penalty to Cook for tripping at 1:35 gave the Goannas a chance and they used the powerplay well, scoring with less than half a minute remaining when Roberts scored off an assist from Jami Goonan.  Shots on goal were Goannas 2, to the Rush 22!

The second period would be all the Rush as they added 2 goals to none to take a 3-1 lead.  The goals coming from Crompton (assist Candice Mitchell) and Lutz (assist Natalie Ayris).  Plenty of penalties were dished out, for the Rush, Sarah Wise for tripping, Crompton for tripping, and for the Goannas, Roberts for tripping, Roberts again for slashing after the Rush scored their 3rd goal and Tracy Hocutt for interference.  Shots on goal for the period, Goannas 5, Rush another dominating 20 shots.

The Rush didn’t hold back in the last and kept the pressure up steamrolling forward as they added another 4 goals to none.  This period Tash Farrier would be prominent scoring 2 goals and an assist, her two goals coming from assists from Lutz twice and Natalie Ayris for one of them.  Candice Mitchell would open the scoring in the period with her assist coming from Farrier.  To say she was ecstatic with her goal would be an understatement.  The other goal was scored by Tiffany Venning with Elizabeth Aveson chiming in for the assist.  The two Goannas penalties (Samantha Brophy for hooking and goalie Pearson for delaying the game) did not have a bearing on the scoring oddly, indicating a strong penalty kill unit.  The Goannas could not score on a powerplay when Rush’s Crompton went to the box for tripping.  Shots on goal for the game: Goannas 8, to a mammoth 62 shots from the Rush.  Goannas goalie Taylah Pearson would sleep well that night!
