Photos from the 2020 Bushfire Appeal Charity Game between Local born players vs Rest of the World players to raise money for victims of the recent bushfires in the Cudlee Creek area of the Adelaide Hills and Kangaroo Island, South Australia. The pre-game proceedings included honouring the Adelaide Kaurna indigenous ice hockey team that had recently competed in a competition in Canada and speeches from the South Australian Premier, Stephen Marshall. This charity game saw current players, past legends including Ari Pullinen, Trevor Walsh, Mitch Villani, Olivier Martin (goaltender), Josh Harding (retired No. 22 jersey), the Thilthorpe brothers Luke and Ben, 600 gamer Greg Oddy and his brother John Oddy, making the trip from Dubai especially for this special game, and many more past Avalanche/Adrenaline players and current Adrenaline players. Other overseas players included, Jarrod Scott, Kerry Goulet (famous for his US v Canada ice hockey roadshows), Randy Osborne (Canadian Heritage Hockey League) and Ryan Remillard, a former Adelaide Adrenaline player. In the mix was three AWIHL (women’s league) Adelaide Rush players, Tash Farrier, Sasha Lutz and Lizzie Aveson. All players were treated as equals and the girls showed how hard they can play at the top level. One thing for sure, the crowd was treated to a hell of a game, with both sides not giving an inch and the older players showing they still had ‘it’ against the young guns! The World team lead out from the front but were gradually hauled in with the game heading to 3-on-3 extra time such was the evenness of this competition. It was Tash Farrier on a breakaway that would score the game winner for the Locals. Final score Locals 7, World 6. The appeal raised $23,951.
