26/07/2020 C Grade Blackhawks v Falcons 5-2

Some of the photos from the C grade ice hockey, first game of the winter season between the Blackhawks and the Falcons.

First game of the shortened winter ice hockey season at the Ice Arena, Adelaide for C grade due to COVID19 with the Blackhawks taking on the Falcons.  The Blackhawks were first out of the box to score at the 17:19 mark in the first period with Sebastien Haiart scoring past Falcon’s goaltender Matt Francis receiving an assist from Jay Gunton.  The Falcons were a player short after the 13:40 mark, being called for too many players on the ice with a slow changeover of shifts.  The ‘Hawks would take a commanding lead with two goals at the 12:35 and 11:40 mark.  Goals going to Gunton, assisted by Will Gerace, and then Gerace scoring with an assist from Mitch Bacon.  The Falcons would peg one back with 6:28 to play after Pavel Pracny scored past ’Hawks goaltender Nick Siebert.  The assist going to debutante Bryan Schiller and Tom Stewart.  End of the period saw the ‘Hawks with 13 shots on goal for 3, and the Falcons with 6 shots for 1 goal.

The 2nd Period was a tight affair with the Falcons matching the ‘Hawks and despite a very late tripping penalty to Falcons Nigel Percy the score remained at 3-1.  Shots on goal were Blackhawks 9, and Falcons with 11.  The 3rd Period however saw the Falcons step up a notch and reduce the margin to 3-2 when Pracny scored again at 12:39, this time receiving an assist from Nathan Cross.  The ‘Hawks however didn’t take too kindly to that threat and fired one back shortly after at 11:04, with captain Nick Frangoulis getting the goal after assists from Cindy Cooper and Brandon Hodge.  The ‘Hawks gave the Falcons a chance at 8:34 when Luke John went to the box for tripping, but they were unable to score with the man advantage.  The ‘Hawks however had one more trick up their sleeve and scored a late goal to take it to 5-2 with 39 seconds remaining, scored by Justin Brinkies, and assists from Hodge and Tom Mara.  The Falcons would out shoot the ‘Hawks 11-6 in this final period.  Shots on goal for the game was Blackhawks 28 for 5 goals, Falcons 28 for 2.
