Photos from the Pee Wee Roos division ice hockey game between the Senators and Panthers played at the Ice Arena, Adelaide, South Australia on 30/08/2020. The Senators found themselves 4 players short going into this game, but injured Marni Trapolino fronted up by Sunday morning and two players, Damon von Einem and Amber Bedell from the Crocs devision shored up the Senators defence shortage.
The Senators looked to settle the lines as they faced a hungry Panthers team. The Panthers would score the first goal at the 13:38 mark with Eleanor Bartter scoring unassisted with the Senators looking a bit disorganised with the new lines. A tripping penalty at 11:32 to Panthers Wade Patterson would give the Senators the player advantage to level the score, however the Panthers penalty kill unit remained strong and denied the Senators. The Senators would take some time to settle the score, eventually tying the score at 1-1 at the 7:40 mark when Luka Loria got one past Panthers netminder, Riley Knapp, assisted by Amber Bedell. The Panthers would score the go-ahead goal at 3:53 when Wade Patterson scored unassisted. Shots on goal for the period: Senators Brodie Clarke facing 6 shots, Panthers Riley Knapp 6 shots.
The second period was tight with the two teams defence lines holding out scoring opportunities. The Senators still appeared a bit rattled at times and Luka Loria not able to find his usual way past before settling down but this had given the Panthers an opportunity and they would go to a dominant 3-1 lead when Grace Kalambokas scored unassisted at 7:53. Things were looking dark for the Senators so it was time to dig deep and grind their way back into the game get more shots on goal. Eventually looking more settled, this they did and pegged one back at 4:19 when Trapolino scored from Loria with the scoreline remaining at 2-3 going into the last break. A penalty to the Panthers for too many players on the ice at 0:29 would continue into the last period giving the Senators an early advantage. Shots on goal for the period: Clarke faced 3, Knapp faced 8.
Using the player advantage into the 3rd period, the Senators would tie up the scoring at 3-3 when Loria rifled one past Knapp top shelf at 14:10. Now it was game-on! With a head of steam up, the Senators Diamond Cross pounced on a pass from Damon von Einem and scored the go-ahead goal at 12:39. At the 7:15 mark, Senators Amber Bedell would get her stick held and then trying to free it ended up with a high stick penalty, giving the Panthers the chance to equalise again. The Panthers wasted no chances and did this at the 6:16 mark when Bartter scored her 2nd goal for the game after an assist from Naomi Gagnon. This would be an exciting last 6mins in a game that looked like one-way traffic to the Panthers early on. With renewed confidence, Senators Cross let fly a rocket and would score the game winner after receiving a pass off Zeth Wyngarde’s skate with 4:57 remaining on the clock. Both defence teams stepped up a notch and snuffed out any chance to score although the Senators had fired more shots on goal for the period. The Senators came out come-from-behind winners in an entertaining close game. Shots on goal for the game were: Clarke (who it turns out was playing injured) faced 14 shots for 4 goals, to Panthers Knapp 24 shots for 5 goals.
