28/03/2021 Junior Summer Ice Hockey Div2 – Pirates v Hornets 4-3

Some of the photos from the last Adelaide Summer League Junior Div2 games played on 28/03/2021.  Pirates and Destroyers met first up.  The Pirates would score first halfway through the 1st period with Poppy Kelly scoring the goal after assists from stalwarts Hudson Elze and Mickey Nottle.    The Hornets levelled the score with 3:45 remaining in the period when Jack Fode found a way past Pirates’ goaltender Riley Knapp after teaming up with Callum von Einem and Jasmine Chen.  Shots on goal were stand-in 16 year old newbie goalie for the Hornets 3 shots, and Knapp 5 shots.

Pirates’ Nottle scored two unassisted goals in the second period with the Hornets unable to find their past the miserly defence of the Pirates, including Nottle, Jordan Kutsche, Paige Morris and Luke d’Anise.  A penalty to Hornets’ Zeth Wyngarde for interference didn’t help their cause.  Shots on goal for the period were Hornets’ goaltender 8 shots, to Knapp 5 shots faced.

The long break at the end of the second period gave the Hornets a chance to regroup and change their gameplan, and with this were able to peg a goal back at 11:28 left on the clock with Jack Fode again scoring, with assists this time from Grace Kalambokas and Marley Fode.  The Hornets meant business, and with 5:46 remaining in the game they drew level with the Pirates at 3 goals a piece, and more importantly with a lot of momentum now.  The goal was the hat trick goal for Jack Fode, with another assist from Kalambokas.  This game was now poised for an exciting finish to see if the Hornets could sting the Pirates.  However it was the Pirates that would rob the Hornets of a win….”Aarrrrh”, said the Pirate “there’s some bad puns there!”.   Pirates’ David Loria would step up and score with less than a minute remaining in the game after an assist from Elze.  The Hornets threw everything at the Pirates in the remaining 49 seconds, but the Pirates held firm to win 4-3 in an exciting last game for the Pirates.  Shots on goal for the game were Hornets’ goaltender facing 13 shots, to Knapp facing 16 shots.  The Hornets would now need to regroup for their last game of the season against the rampaging Destroyers coming off a 6-4 win against the Pirates in the early game.
