B grade action here with photos from the Tigers vs Blackhawsk game played on 18/04/2021. The Tigers and Blackhawks are known to have a rivalry. The Tigers made short work of the period opening their account at the 17:23 mark when veteran Ari Pullinen found the back of the net after assists from ex-goaltender Russell Brewer and veteran Alexi Filinkov. A hooking penalty to Blackhawks Tom Colclasure with 12:35mins remaining did not seen off by the Hawks penalty kill unit. Then an interference call on Tigers Spiro Mougious at the 10:50mark didn’t result in any goals to the Blackhawks. The Blackhawks managed to tie up the game though with 6:54 remaining when Dave Hancock scored unassisted. The one goal lead to the Tigers was restored less than a minute later when Josh Letheby scored from assists from Simon Jarrad and Brenton Letheby. Brewer made it a 2-goal lead in the dying seconds of the period with the assists coming from Pullinen and Jarrad.
It took until the 14:32 mark for the Tigers to continue to plough forward to now take a 3-goal lead as Adam Jenkinson found Daniel Evans who scored. Plenty of rough action occurred with 12mins left in the period as Tigers Brenton Letheby and Blackhawks Tim Dobrowolski and goaltender Cooper Davidson-Peacock headed to the sin bin for 2mins each for roughing. Five minutes after the Tigers goal, Blackhawks Brodie Julian received a pass from Hancock to score the Hawks second goal of the game, their last. A body check by Jarrad with 4:41 remaining earnt him a 2min rest in the sin bin. With under 2mins to play Pullinen scored again, but you wouldn’t have known it as businesslike lack of emotion looked like his cat had died! The assist coming from Jarrad. Tigers Brewer was forced to the ice in front of the Blackhawks goal but while crashing to the deck he got a shot away and scored in remarkable fashion. The assists came from Jarrad and Mark Lieberenz.
The third period resulting in no goals being scored….but there was a bag full of penalties dished out. Despite the plethora of penalties to the Tigers (6 to the Blackhawks 1) the Blackhawks were unable to score due to the tight Tigers defence. Blackhawks Davidson-Peacock (tripping) when displeased with a Tigers player encroaching on his personal space, Tigers Jarrad for a late hit and misconduct, Mougious for interference, misconduct followed by a game misconduct which earnt him an early trip to the showers, and them Simon Kelly late for a match. Final score Tigers 6 Blackhawks 2.
Goaltenders stats were Tigers Paul Kluske facing 18 shots for 16 saves (0.889 Save %) and Blackhawks Cooper Davidson-Peacock facing 25 shots for 19 saves (0.760 Save %).
