A Grade ice hockey action from the Ice Arena, Adelaide from Wednesday 12 May 2021 between the Falcons and the Tigers. The Tigers Olivier Martin (former Adelaide Avalanche goaltender) opened the scoring with 15:35 remaining on the clock. The assist went to Devan Seamens. The Falcons would strike back almost immediately when John Langford got one past Tigers goaltender Sam O’Neill. The assists came from Nat Ayris (Adelaide Rush AWIHL player) and Scott Chandler (who had played for Avalanche around 2007-8). The defence units of both teams managed to thwart any goals until Tigers Jeremy Klein scored with 7:35 remaining after an assist from former Avalanche goaltender Eric Lien. The Tigers would add another with just over 5mins remaining. The goal scorer was Seamens with the assist coming from Lien. A hooking penalty to Falcons Kirsty Venus (Adelaide Rush player) didn’t result in any goals to the Tigers as the Falcons penalty kill unit did their job. Falcons Michelle Coonan faced a lot of action with 20 shots faced. The Falcons defence would need to help her out.
Less than a minute into the period Falcons Dylan Hudson would head to the penalty box for tripping giving the Tigers the powerplay, but they were unable to score. Eventually Tigers Stu Henly scored with just under 14mins remaining, with the assist coming from Martin and Lien. It would now be an uphill battle for the Falcons to get back into the game. The score remained the same as neither team found an advantage. The Tigers would give the Falcons a 5-on-3 powerplay for the 3rd period when Seamens went for hooking at 0:34, and Drew Maltby for tripping with 1sec remaining in the period.
The Falcons grabbed the opportunity of the player advantage as Yuriy Solomonov scored about 30secs into the period after an assist from Tristen Reese (former Adrenaline player) and Josh Leane. The Tigers were in a bit of penalty trouble again with 15:21 remaining when Jason Nordin was deemed to be roughing and took a 2min break in the penalty box. The Tigers penalty kill unit held firm and the penalty ran its course with no goals scored. Tigers Martin would score his second for the night with 12:28mins remaining. The assist came from Seamens. Falcons Leane was done for roughing at 9:49 on the clock, but the Tigers were unable to make use of the player advantage and score. The Falcons were getting a reputation for roughing as Venus headed to the penalty box with just over 2mins remaining in the game. Tigers Reece Boundy made light work of it and scored the Tigers 6th goal for the game, after an assist from Jeff Fode. In the dying seconds of the game, Stu Henly decided he needed to get on the gamesheet but it was for a 2min slashing penalty. Shots on goal for the game: Tigers Sam O’Neill facing 17 shots, and the always happy Michelle Coonan facing a massive 57 shots!
The game was immediately followed by a touching tribute by the players from the game and the next game to Norbert Pecsi, an iconic Ice Arena personality, and ex-Tigers player who tragically passed away recently.
