A grade ice hockey action at the Ice Arena on the 19/06/2021 had the Redwings up against the Blackhawks. In between the pipes for the Redwings was Johnny Cousins, and for the Blackhawks, Sam Poole. The exciting young gun Daniel Koudelka was in the Redwings and one of the main reasons I came to see this game. Early on neither team, was able to dominate, but eventually the Blackhawks would open the scoring with 6:33 remaining in the first period, when Jamie Lunn found the back of the net after an assist from Troy Collins. That would be the scoreline going into the first break.
The 2nd period saw the Blackhawks swing straight into action only 35secs in when captain Jarrod MacDonnell scored truly with assists going to Pierluigi Clemente and veteran Mike Gainer. Blackhawks Joel Osborne fell foul of the ref at 10:34 for slashing but the Redwings could not find a way past the ‘Hawks defence and goaltender Poole. The Blackhawks did however find a way through and past Cousins with 4:53 remaining to post their 3rd goal for the game. Goalscorer was Sharnita Crompton with assists to MacDonnell and Mark Page.
The 3rd period started as a repeat of the second with the Blackhawks striking early at 18:52 as Crompton posted her 2nd goal for the game with assists coming again from MacDonnell and Gainer. Redwings Jarrod Cook got frustrated with the one-way traffic on the scoreboard would get called for boarding at 14:40 and then returned to the sin bin a short time later for a 10min misconduct penalty at 12:40 remaining. The Blackhawks were unable to score despite the player advantage. The Redwings were given an opportunity at 6:42 on the clock as Blackhawks Ryan McLean headed to the penalty box for slashing, but they were unable to score. However a short time later Redwings Tamir Dunning did find the back of the net to avoid the shut out. The goal coming with 3:52 remaining and the assists coming from Jolyon Oakey and Daniel Koudelka. With 2:17 left on the clock, Blackhawks Joel Osborne was caught for slashing but the Redwings were unable to add to their single goal. Shots on goal were Redwings Cousins facing 22, to Blackhawks Poole 18.
