Selected photos from the AIHL game between the Adelaide Adrenaline and the CBR Brave played on 28/04/2019 at the Ice Arena in Adelaide. In this return bout the Adrenaline would need to build on their competitive showing the night before with the knowledge that they had improved considerably from last year and could match it with best on occasions. The 1st period saw Brave’s Brayden Low get done for interference at 11:11 but the Brave would once again dominate scoring 3 goals to nil in the 1st period, but the Adrenaline had kept them scoreless until the 8:57 mark when Brayden Low scored, assisted by Matt Harvey and Wehebe Darge. Darge would get a goal of his own against his former team at 5:02 with assists being given to Jordon Brunt and Andy Camenzind. The Brave scored their 3rd goal at 1:47 when Hayden Dawes beat Adrenaline netminder with assists from Adam Kambeitz and Tyler Mayea. The Brave would find themselves in deep trouble when Low was called for tripping at 0:42 and Dawes with 10secs left one the clock for slashing giving the Adrenaline a 5-on-3 advantage. Shots on goal again favoured the Brave 18 to 8 shots.
Despite the 5-on-3 powerplay the Adrenaline could not capitalise. Roughing penalties to Adrenaline’s Alexandre Gauthier and Brave’s Low at 10:41 kept the teams at even strength. The second period was tight, with the Adrenaline holding out the Brave and scoring the only goal at 10:08 when Marcel McGuinness scored one-on-one against Brave’s goalie Alex Tetreault deking to the left first before swinging right finding a wide open space. Shots on goal favoured the Adrenaline 17 to 11 showing they can dominate on occasion.
The 2nd period momentum didn’t continue for the Adrenaline as the Brave had regrouped at the break and came out swinging, posting 2 early powerplay goals at 18:03 (Kambeitz from Camenzind and Jordan Draper) after a penalty to Kyle Neuber at 18:29 and scoring again at 16:13 (Draper from Low and Camenzind) after a penalty to Adrenaline’s Ales Kratoska for a delayed hit to assert their authority on the game again. However, facing a 5-1 scoreline the Adrenaline weren’t done yet. Young gun Jake Riley would score the Adrenaline’s 2nd goal with an assist from captain Josef Rezek to reduce the margin to 3 goals. A holding penalty to Adrenaline’s Gauthier for holding at 11:36 didn’t result in a goal. Meanwhile the Brave kept out of penalty trouble the entire period posting shot after shot on the hapless Adrenaline goalie Jesse Gordichuk as the defence started to tire. They were rewarded again with 0:38 left on the clock when Dawes scored, assisted by Harvey. The relentless onslaught by the Brave resulted in a staggering 27 shots fired on Gordichuk, against the Adrenaline’s 8 shots on Tetreault.
