Selected photos from the last home AIHL game for the Adelaide Adrenaline, this time against the Sydney Bears, played at the Ice Arena on 18/08/2019. A tough call for the Adrenaline to pull a rabbit out of the hat with a win against the tough Bears outfit. With import Kyle Neuber locked out due to suspension and import goalie Jesse Gordichuk heading home for much needed surgery the remaining imports would need to support the home-grown talent. It would be highly popular Ales Kratoska and Jamie Holland’s last AIHL games in Adelaide after a few years. Without Gordichuk, home goalies Glenn Forbes-White and Jeremy Friederich would be the goaltenders, with Friederich as opening goalie. The first period was a one-way street for the Bears, posting 3 goals, 2 to Jacob Ratcliffe (assists to import Adam Dauda and import Danick Gauthier, and same again), and Jeremy Brucker (assists to captain Michael Schlamp and Dauda). The Adrenaline on the other hand had a bench minor for too many men on the ice at 10:35 but managed to hold out Bears during that penalty. Shots on goal for the period, Bears 18, Adrenaline 6.
The second period would see some more joy for the Adrenaline as Steve Best would score the first goal for the period at 13:43, assisted by Harley Anderson and Josef Rezek. Unfortunately for the Adrenaline, the 3-1 scoreline would revert back to a 3 goal break to the Bears when Tyrell Clare scored at 11:52, with the assists going to Brucker and Timothy Newmark. The Adrenaline would strike back at 11:11 with Jake Riley smacking one home from goalie Anthony Kimlin’s right side, with the assists to import Ben Gavoille and import Ales Kratoska. This gave the Adrenaline some chance to claw themselves back into the game if the cards fell the right way. The Bears of course had other ideas heading into the finals and upped the ante posting the next goal at 7:28 when Brucker would score off Schlamp and Clare, and then again in the dying seconds of the period from Dauda with assists to Clare and Gauthier. Shots on goals for the period, Bears 15, Adrenaline 12.
The Adrenaline would switch goaltenders at the break and Glen Forbes-White headed to the pipes. This change may have given them a spark and they would score the first goal for the period when Jamie Holland scored at 13:03 in his last AIHL home game, with the assists from Kratoska and Gavoille. The scoreline was 6-3 in the Bears favour. They would extend the lead out to 4 goals only 16 seconds later when Duada scored his second goal, with assists from Gauthier and import Kyllian Guyenet. The pain wasn’t over for the Adrenaline yet, as Schlamp scored their 8th goal at 5:20. The assists came from Brucker and Newmark. The score remained the same closing out a disappointing season for the Adrenaline, but the take home message would be the experience the younger players would have gained from this season which could bode well for the future of the team. Shots on goal for the game were 50 for 8 goals, Adrenaline 31 for 3.
