20/06/2021 C grade ice hockey – Falcons v Redwings 4-3

Second game of C grade ice hockey on Sunday afternoon of 20/06/2021 saw the Falcons play the Redwings.  Both teams were evenly matched with neither getting one up on each other.  Falcons Bryan Schiller would head to the penalty box for tripping halfway in the period.  Nathan Cross of the Falcons opened the scoring at the end of the 1st period with 1:14 remaining after an assist from David Stephens.  The Falcons would add a 2nd goal from Everett Cormack, unassisted with 22secs remaining.

The 2nd period had Redwings veteran Steve Newbound deemed for tripping with 14:48 remaining in the period giving the Falcons the powerplay.  They made light work of it, with Amy Kershaw scoring from a Cormack assist only 19secs into the penalty.  A minute later Redwings Renee Marsland put them onto the scoresheet after an assist from Dylan Francis.  Falcons Hayden Brice took a 2min breather after hooking a Redwings opponent with just under 7mins remaining in the period.  The Redwings use the player advantage perfectly and scored their 2nd goal through Ryan Gaspari teaming up with Michael Boslooper and Paul Gardner.

Five minutes into the 3rd period and Gaspari levelled the score with the Redwings 3rd goal, scoring the goal unassisted.  The Falcons had a sloppy shift change and had to take a team penalty for too many players on the ice with just over 10minute to play.  The Redwings weren’t able to take advantage.  Redwings veteran Steve Meharry went to the penalty box for interference with 6:28 left in the period but the Falcons didn’t score on the powerplay.  Redwings Gaspari fell foul of the ref and took a 2min penalty for hooking.  The Falcons seized the opportunity and Brice scored off assists from Cormack and Nathan Cross to put the Falcons one-up with 4:15 remaining in the game, resulting in the final score of 4-3 in favour of the Falcons.  Shots on goal saw the Redwings goaltender face 27 shots, to Falcons goaltender 24 shots.
