Selected photos from the Australian Ice Hockey League game between Adelaide Adrenaline and the Melbourne Ice played at the Ice Arena, Adelaide, South Australia on 10/05/2025. The Adrenaline had recently acquired the services of experience goaltender Nicholas Novysedlak who would be up against the best goaltender in the league Tatsunoshin Ishida. Andrew Hamilton was also back into the team after a 2-year hiatus. Returning from Team Australia that had played in Serbia was Zac Boyle and Daniel Chen. The Adrenaline would have many younger players, playing in their 1st year of AIHL.
Unfortunately, it would be an ugly game for the Adrenaline as they faced ferocious Ice outfit hammering their goaltender time and time again. Their experienced forwards were unable to respond. By the end of the 1st period the tone had been set, but wasn’t unsurmountable, as the Adrenaline trailed by 3 goals to none. Goal scorers for the Ice had been Christian Pansino and Mackenzie Caruana (2 goals). Shots on goal had been 16-12 in favour of the ice.
The 2nd period didn’t start the way the Adrenaline wanted as Ice’s Kolton Shindle put on 2 extra goals, the 2nd one shorthanded and the game was now starting to get out of reach and the Adrenaline would need to dig deep from the experienced players, or have the youthful team find something extra that the Ice hadn’t seen before being in the first year in the AIHL for quite a few. The drought was finally broken as the very hard-working Daniel Koudelka found the back of the net at 7:53 in front of the jubilant Base Camp crowd. Assists came from Steve Best and Ryan Foll. However, by the very end of the period Ice’s Jamie Bourke had restored the 5-goal margin again.
The Ice were simply relentless in the 3rd period, firing shot after shot on the struggling Adrenaline players. Goals came from Pansino, Caruana (for his hat trick), Ellesse Carini, Shindle (for his hat trick), Bourke (for his 2nd goal) and Joey Hughes. With 1:16 remaining in the game, Adrenaline’s Ryan Foll would score a late goal from a Zac Boyle assist. Shots on goal for the game were Ice 42, to the Adrenaline’s 24 shots.
The next night I had heard a story that a virus had gone through the Adrenaline team. This could explain the struggles as well as missing players in the lineup the next night.
