27/04/2025 Mallala Super Trucks

After a 15 or 16 year absence, the black smoke belching trucks returned for Truck Racing at Mallala Motorsport Park, north of Adelaide, South Australia on the weekend of 26-27 April 2025.  The trucks would be split into 2 categories, Super Trucks, for the Kenworths, Macks and Scanias etc, and Lights Trucks for the smaller trucks such as Isuzu.   Support categories for the trucks included Formula V, Miniature Race Cars, Speedway Super Stocks, Hyundai Excels, Production Cars races and Drifting demonstrations.

Leading the field in the final race, the sole Mack truck of Marcus Prillwitz would lose the lead after an incident at the northwestern hairpin (turn 5) and then have to scramble hard to catch the leaders and fend off the chasing pack.  The Scania spun out on the eastern hairpin (turn 7) and into the dirt.  Entertaining the crowd was the excellent drifting of the blue Isuzu through turns 7 and 8 and onto the start straight.

Taking out Round 1 of the Australian Super Trucks was Steven Zammit (Kenworth T401, SRZ Racing #40 Australian Super Truck) to win the inaugural Clem Smith Trophy, followed by Frank Amoroso (Kenworth, Fate Racing) and Shannon Smith (Kenworth T900, GLE Racing).  In the Lights Trucks, top honours went to Lachlan Fern (MLC Truck Racing) over Lachlan Prillwitz (Prillwitz Racing Team) and Tye Oxley (Sandman Racing).
