After an overtime 6-5 win in their first game of the 2024-2025 Adelaide Summer League ice hockey season with Jordan Kutsche scoring the game winner, the DivB Unicorns moved on to the tough Snipers in Game 2. Inspired by the DivA Unicorns 4-0 win earlier against their Snipers opponents, the DivB were trying to make it a Unicorns double and had the services of Nick Merrifield in between the pipes. The first period was tight with neither team able to bust through good defence shown by both teams and the 6-5 shots on goal in favour of the Unicorns highlighted this. The second period was the same and winding down with only 2:36 left on the clock, playing coach Joel O’Brien got a breakaway and put the Unicorns up by one.
The low scoring showed the intensity of both teams and it took until halfway through the 3rd period before another goal was registered. The Unicorns 2nd goal came from a pass from defenceman Jordan Kutsche in the defensive zone up the boards past the scoring booth where Dino Macri took control of the puck and carved his way through to be one-on-one with the Snipers goaltender, Lucas Grist, and scored truly for his first ever goal in ice hockey. Snipers captain Scott Buley upped the intensity but was thwarted a couple of times being pushed wide to have a shot. Eventually through some not so good defence from the Unicorns all on one side of the rink, Buley found the puck at the back door and slotted one past Unicorns goaltender Nick Merrifield. The score remained the same to the end with the Unicorns edging out the Snipers 2-1. Shots on goal were 21-20 in favour of the Snipers.
