2/05/2025 Adelaide Summer League Division B – Arctics B vs Unicorns B 0-3

Selected photos from the Adelaide Summer League Division A ice hockey game between Arctics B and Unicorns B played on 2/05/2025 at the Ice Arena, Adelaide, South Australia.  Going into the game the ladder for the top 4 teams was tight with the final placings still to be decided.  The Unicorns already in the finals either way, but the Arctics were out of the race and wanting to cause an upset like their Division A side just did.  A few Division A players bolstered their side, including Mark Paterson and Oliver Edwards.  The Arctics would need some good defence, an area that has troubled them in the past games.  Unicorns Jordan Kutsche was warmed up from his Division A game was back in, and Nicholas Merifield was in goals, after his Arctics A win as a player (and scoring a goal himself).  The Arctics chose to have Brodie Clarke in goals, despite having their regular goaltender William Coulsen already at the rink with his gear….odd.

Jordan Kutsche hadn’t been able to get a goal in the more aggressive Division A game just prior, but he was spurred on and scored unassisted out of defence at 17:01 in to give the Unicorns the early lead.  Livewire Andrew Sherman would put the ‘Corns up by 2 goals with just over 3mins left in the period with the goal also unassisted.  No penalties for the period.  Shots on goal saw Unicorns 13 shots to Arctics 3.

The last period the Unicorns were looking to finish strongly for their run into the finals.  The Arctics however were looking to do the same for pride and experience.  No additional scores resulted such was the tight defence and excellent goal tending.  No penalties either.  What was highly unusual and much to the Unicorns amusement was Arctics big man Wayne Stent passing back to his goaltender numerous times while in defence…..not the done thing to do!  Lucky for him no goals resulted but it did fool everyone, including his own team mates.   Shots on goal for the game saw the Unicorns totally dominate with 32 shots to the Arctics 16.
