Selected photos from those taken at the Australian Ice Hockey League game between Adelaide Adrenaline and the Newcastle Northstars played on 16/07/2023 at the Ice Arena, Adelaide, South Australia. What would the Adrenaline bring to counteract the Northstars in the 2nd of the double header weekend? Matus Trnka would be the starting goaltender, and Northstars would continue with Charlie Smart. The period would start with penalties to Adrenaline’s Joey Macdougall and Northstars Josh Adkins for roughing. The Northstars would score the first goal of the game at 15:57 when Tanner Butler hit the back of the net, with assists coming from Francis Drolet and Riley Klugerman. The Adrenaline would strike back at 11:59 when Nathaniel Benson scored with assists coming from Ben Handberg and Coy Prevost. Those would be the only goals for the period, but not penalties: Northstars Shane Southwood for hooking, Adrenaline’s Zach Boyle for slashing and Northstars Patrick Nadin for roughing. Shots on goal for the period saw Adrenaline’s Trnka face 14 shots to Northstars Smart facing 12.
Despite more shots on goal in the 2nd period, the 2nd period would belong to the Northstars on the scoreboard. They would add 3 goals to nothing. Daniel Berno (assist Adkins), Darge (assists Drolet and Klugerman) and Klugerman (assist Butler). There had been 3 penalties: all Northstars, Patrick Ward for roughing, Butler for elbowing and Berno for tripping. Shots on goal for the period saw Trnka face 8, to Northstars Smart facing 11.
The Adrenaline again faced an uphill battle to get within reach of the Northstars 4 goals. Brett Radford however was up to the task, scoring early at 17:54 on a powerplay with Darge having a 2min minor for high-sticking (assists coming from Prevost and Macdougall). A plethora of penalties didn’t change the scoreline so the Adrenaline had been putting in a gritty performance to keep the difference to 2 goals for so long. Unfortunately for them the Northstars would add another as Berno scored late in the period at 1:45 (assists coming from Darge and Adkins). Shots on goal for the game saw Adrenaline’s Trnka face 40 shots to Northstars Smart facing 30 shots. The crisp passing from the Northstars players had been one of the differences in the game.
