Selected photos from the Adelaide Summer League Ice Hockey Division A Semi-final Game 2 (best of 3 series) between the Huskies A vs Unicorns A teams played on 9/02/2025 at the Ice Arena, Adelaide, South Australia. The Unicorns had finished on top in the minor round but in the Game 1 of the series Huskies had taken the win, so the Unicorns were playing for their survival, whereas the Huskies were looking to wrap up the series and progress to the Grand Final best of 3 series. Huskies Mat Baschiera had been instrumental in the Huskies win in game 1. The leading points scorers of the Unicorns, Baxter Prosser and Sam Stouppos would need to step up for this one after having no luck in the first game. Goaltenders were Alexander Palmer (Unicorns) and Tori Kellett (Huskies).
Unfortunately, things did not go the Unicorns way and they were staring down the barrel as the Huskies piled on 3 unanswered goals in the 1st period (Daniel Riding, John James Hong and Ian McBride being the goal scorers). Penalties had gone to Baschiera (tripping) and Akshay Shankar-Noble (roughing) but the Unicorns couldn’t capitalise on the player advantage. Shots on goal has been 9 to the Huskies, to 7 for the Unicorns.
The penalties continued for Baschiera (tripping) and Shankar-Noble (2x interference) in the 2nd period. Unicorns Sam Stouppos finally got the ‘Corns on the board at 12:46 to stem the flow, but then got a penalty for tripping with 20secs to go in the period. Shots on goal were reversed, in favour of the Unicorns.
A lively pep talk on the Unicorns bench at the period break must have done the trick, as Prosser found the net twice to level the score, with the Unicorns bench going bunta, as well as the Unicorns B team in the adjacent changeroom! Huskies Baschiera gave the Unicorns the chance to go ahead when he got yet another tripping minor at 5:20, but this wasn’t to be. Then at the 2:04 mark, Huskies captain Daniel Riding put the Huskies in front with the puck sliding underneath goaltender Palmer. Would the ‘Corns be able to mount another challenge or would the Huskies snuff out any chance. The Unicorns had thrown shot on after shot on goal…It would be the latter as the Huskies won 4-3 and progress onwards to face the winner of the other semi-final series between the Titans and Stingrays. Shots on goal for the game were Unicorns 32 to Huskies 24.
