Selected photos from the Australian Ice Hockey League clash between the Adelaide Adrenaline and CBR Brave played on 28/04/2025 at the Ice Arena, Adelaide, South Australia. In the Saturday game the Adrenaline had put up a good fight to go down by one goal against the Brave (no jokes about the Adrenaline’s brave effort). The Adrenaline would be without some players who were representing Australia in the World Championships in Serbia, so the Adrenaline used the opportunity to play some of the younger players in Nikita Loria and Dominic Trnka. The Adrenaline import Coach Jad Galbraith would be suited up to play. The Brave would only have one Kubara playing (what? nooo, surely not?).
The Brave would be the first on the board at 9:12 when Bayley Kubara beat Adrenaline goaltender Kiwi Connor Parr. Assists came from Jordan Brunt and Scott Clemmie. A tripping penalty to Adrenaline’s Jordan Freeman at 7:11 meant the penalty kill unit would need to be up to it and they saw off the penalty. With a bit over a minute left in the period, Remy McGuinness equalised, scoring the goal unassisted. Brave’s Kubara then gave the Adrenaline the man advantage with 0:35 left for a delay of game.
The 2nd period again saw the Adrenaline take the initiative at 14:00 as Kyle McPhail found the back of the net with him jumping high in the air for joy. Assists came from Josh Adkins and Galbraith. The Brave would be back on even footing as Mitchell Henning scored at 9:34, with assists coming from Nicholas Christensen and Kubara. The game got physical and Brave’s Christensen headed to the penalty box for a 5mins major for boarding Remy McGuinness head first into the boards which created a stoush behind the goals as all players came in. This resulted in roughing penalties to Adrenaline’s Marcel McGuinness and Brave’s Lachlan Fahmy. The Adrenaline had managed to keep in touch with the Brave.
The 3rd period started strongly for the Brave as they immediately grabbed the lead through veteran Matthew Harvey, despite being shorthanded, with Dominic Canic serving a 2mins hooking penalty. At 13:50, the Brave would go 2-up as Dominic Canic scored off a Branden McNally assist. Adrenaline’s Remy McGuinness would receive a tripping minor at 12:40 to give the Brace the powerplay but no change in the score resulted, not until 6:30 when Brave’s Kubara scored their 5th goal (assists Brunt and Canic). An interference call on Ricki Miettinen gave the Adrenaline a chance to makes some in roads into the Brave’s 3-goal lead but there was no change in the score. With 4secs remaining in the game Adrenaline’s Nikita Loria was given a roughing penalty, and then after the final bell, Brave’s Scott Clemmie received a 10mins unsportsmanlike conduct penalty. Shots on goal for the game were Brave 32, Adrenaline 30.
