9/01/2026 Elite Summer Ice Hockey League – Broncos v Voltage 11-3

Photos from the inaugural Elite Summer Ice Hockey League game between the Broncos and the Voltage, played on 9/01/2026 in front of a very healthy sized crowd.  This league is a checking league for Winter Club A grade and Premier League players from the Ice Arena in Adelaide, South Australia.  A handful of these players also play for the Adelaide Adrenaline in the Australian Ice Hockey League.  Prior to the start of the season players that nominated to play in this league underwent a draft process to hopefully create 3 even teams.  The league currently comprises 3 teams and is played on Friday nights.  It is similar to the style of the 2 leagues played in Adelaide during the Covid era.  Goaltenders for the game had Russell (Rusty) Brewer for the Broncos, and Paul Kluske for the Voltage.

The first period saw an absolute domination by the Broncos outfit with Adrenaline players Kyle MacPhail (shorthanded), Tyler Boyle, Remy McGuiness, Zach Boyle scoring and last goal for the period by Bill Newbound.  The Voltage would need to find something special to counteract the Broncos barrage.  The only penalty was a high-sticking minor to Bill Newbound with 2mins remaining in the period.

In the second period the Broncos would continue the merciless onslaught on Kluske, adding 2 more goals through Jake O’Brien and Remy McGuiness, before the Voltage put their first goal on the board when Darren Corstens scored past Russell Brewer.  The Voltage had indeed found something as they mounted a mini comeback when Blake Ung scored and then “Spare Player” (unknown player) to have the scoreline at 7-3.  This was short-lived though when Daniel Chen pocketed the Broncos 8th goal.  Only penalty was again to Bill Newbound for interference.

By the third period the Voltage had found a game plan to counteract the Broncos with the only goal in the period coming from Broncos Zach Boyle.  Plenty of penalties though (Voltage’s Zach Steele and Broncos Damon von Einem for roughing and Broncos Timothy Benson for tripping at 11:44, and Voltage’s Ronald Goret IV for tripping at 6:24.  Alternate goaltender for the Broncos, Riley Knapp got a run between the pipes late in the game.  Final score 9-3 in favour of the Broncos.  Next game would be the Cowboys v Voltage.
