Some of the photos from the Australian Ice Hockey League (AIHL) second game of the weekend between the Adelaide Adrenaline and Sydney Bears played on 05/03/2026 at the Ice Arena, Adelaide, South Australia. These two teams have a lot of history, being two of original 3 teams that formed the AIHL in 2000. Russian player Viacheslav Sarkisyants had settled in with the Adrenaline and is likely to become a crowd favourite. With captain Joey Macdougall out, the Adrenaline would again rely on their many young players to step up. The Adrenaline were desperate for a home win having gone down 2-4 the night before after exploding out of the blocks with the 1at 2 goals of that game. In between the pipes for the Adrenaline would be Cale Dolan, and for the Bears, Anthony Kimlin.
The Adrenaline would again be the first team to score, this time to Viacheslav Sarkisyants, scoring his first home rink goal (assists Nathaniel Benson, Josh Adkins). A holding penalty to Jake Riley in the middle of the period did not result in a change in the score. The Adrenaline managed to keep the Bears at bay for the entire period, until the much experienced Tomas Landa found a way past goal tender Dolan with only 23seconds remaining in the period (assists Brian Chambers, Logan Brodie). Shots on goal for the period: Bears 11, Adrenaline 8.
The 2nd period saw no change to the 1-all score, despite 3 penalties to the Bears – Gustav Remler-Jensen (high-sticking), Louis Olive (hooking) and Alexandre Gauthier again falling foul of the referees with a roughing penalty. Shots on goal for the period saw the Bears dominate despite being in penalty kill mode for 6minutes: Bears 14, Adrenaline 7.
The 3rd period was very tight with neither team finding a way past some good goaltending and defence. The deadlock was eventually broken when Daniel O’Handley had the home crowd explode with 6:16 remaining in the period (assists Jake Riley, Darcy Flanagan). The Adrenaline looked like they were heading for their first regulation win, put the puck spilled off goaltender Cale Dolan and Jake Riley in the goal crease couldn’t see the loose puck, but Bears Lucas Herrmann and the big man crashed the net and the puck dribbled in to cause the game to head for overtime with only 42seconds remaining on the clock. Shots on goal for the period: Bears 12, Adrenaline 11.
The 5minutes 3-on-3 Overtime period produced no winners despite Adrenaline’s Daniel O’Handley getting a tripping penalty and the Bears getting the extra player, so the game would need to head for Shootout to decide a winner. Shots on goal Bears 4, Adrenaline 3.
Bears Louis Olive was the first to face Adrenaline’s Cale Dolan and going to Dolan’s glove side was denied. Adrenaline’s Josh Adkins put it into the net against Bears Anthony Kimlin. Lucas Herrmann would be next for the Bears but he was forced out wide on Dolan’s glove side and missed also. Adrenaline’s Daniel O’Handley missed, and with Bears Brian Chambers needed to score to keep the Bears in it. He would also come in for the blocker side to go glove side and the cool-headed Adrenaline goaltender Cale Dolan caused him to run out of space and therefore miss, giving the Adrenaline their first win of the season.
