11/05/2025 AIHL Adelaide Adrenaline v Melbourne Ice 2-4.

Selected photos from the Australian Ice Hockey League game between Adelaide Adrenaline and the Melbourne Ice played at the Ice Arena, Adelaide, South Australia on 11/05/2025.  The Adrenaline had no answers for a relentless Melbourne Ice outfit the night before, and would need to find something special to bounce back.  Adrenaline had experienced goaltender Nicholas Novysedlak as the starting goaltender again.  The Ice had chosen to put Thomas (Tommy) Forrest in between the pipes.  Missing from the Adrenaline lineup from the Saturday game was Shaun Dosanjh, Andrew Hamilton and Daniel Chen.  Injuries and illnesses in the team certainly didn’t help their cause.  Coming into the team was Jordan Freeman and Yoann Levesque.  The Adrenaline would have many younger players such as Daniel Koudelka, Nikita and Luka Loria and Dominic Trnka (brother of ex-Adrenaline goaltender Matus now playing for Brisbane).  Like the Saturday’s game, it was expected there would be plenty of skirmishes and roughing with these two arch rivals.

The Adrenaline had regrouped overnight and started strongly posting the 1st goal of the game, on powerplay to Freeman (assists Josh Adkins and Steve Best).  And then the Adrenaline struck again at 11:12 when Adkins scored a goal of his own (assists from playing coach Jade Galbraith and Ty Wright).  The Ice had racked up 3 penalties in 10mins, but the Adrenaline were unable to add to their tally on the last to Christian Pansino for boarding at 10:23.  The Ice got themselves onto the board at 5:24 as Mackenzie Caruana scored their 1st goal off a Kolton Shindle assist.  Shindle would add their 2nd goal less than a minute later, silencing the Adrenaline crowd.  Shots on goal for the period saw the Ice outshoot the Adrenaline 15 to 11.

The 2nd period was tight as the Adrenaline had found something special and it took the much more experienced Ice team until 9:36 to score their 3rd goal, to Tyrone Bronte off Kolton Shindle and Nathan Cachia assists.  A little disappointing for the Adrenaline perhaps after such a stellar period matching the Ice.  Shots on goal for the period were in favour of the Ice 12 to 9.

What could the Adrenaline do in the 3rd?  Could they pull off a miracle and claim a surprising win, or at least draw and get some points from the weekend.  Or would the Ice do another blowout like the night before?  Well, the period went the way of the 2nd period with the Adrenaline matching everything thrown at them by the ice, and vice versa, giving it back!  Eight penalties had been dished out, 4-a-piece.  With the time getting less and less for the Adrenaline they pulled goaltender Novysedlak for the extra attacker, probably not a good idea against a lightning fast Ice team but with little choice it was worth a punt.  Unfortunately the Ice would score the empty net goal at 0:47 to Bronte off a Joey Hughes assist.  The undermanned Adrenaline had put up a gallant fight, and 2nd goaltender for the Ice, Tommy Forrest had had an excellent game, well supported by the large army of travelling Ice fans.  Shots on goal for the game were Ice 35, Adrenaline 26.
