A Grade – Burners v Crocs 5-2

Coming in late to watch some of the A grade Burners v Crocs there was only a few minutes left in the game, just enough to capture some action photos before an incident saw Burners player flinging Crocs Brad Chenoweth’s stick away and a fight ensued, and then another, and another as benches were cleared with all players either fighting or trying to pull apart fights.  The result saw 6 penalties handed out.  This was on top of 3 penalties handed out at the 8:06 mark in the 2nd period, and 2 more at the 5:16 mark.  Bit of a feisty game this one, with the Burners scoring 2 goals in the period, before adding another 3 in the 2nd period to the Crocs 2 goals (A grade is played as two 20min periods), and winning the game 5-2.  The Burners are dominating the A grade at the top of the 6 team ladder.  Goals were scored by: Burners Trent “Reggie” Mattschoss hat trick and Paul Joyce 2 goals, and Crocs Brad Chenoweth and Sam Bennett.  Shots on goal: Burners 28, Crocs 23.

B Grade – The Rockstars v Pirates 9-1

B Grade game between the Rockstars and the fledging Pirates team in the first season was next.  Rockstars have had a recent change in goals with Chris Jose on hiatus and C Grade Pelican’s goaltender Jase Hill filling the spot for the rest of the season.  The Pirates had recently lost their initial goaltender Will Coulsen, and in this game had Gawler’s (and now Blackwood regular) Shannon Lang as goaltender.  The Pirates had Adam Weber as mentor for the ‘first time in B grade’ players and brought valuable experience to the side.  The season has been a steep learning curve as B grade is quite a step up from C grade in both speed and skill, although the Pirates came close on 2 occasions with a 1-3 loss to Tree Roots and a 6-8 loss to the top of the ladder Beavers team.  The 1st period saw a single goal scored to Rockstars Isaac Miller as the Pirates managed to hold the Rockstars in check.  However, the Rockstars moved into gear in the 2nd period as Jason Cross, Max Coleman and Seth Anspach each scored goals.  Adam Weber put the Pirates on the board with a goal of his own.  In the 3rd period, Max Coleman would score two more for a hat trick and Seth Anspach would add his second for the game.  Last period, saw Isaac Miller score his 2nd goal for the game and Seth would get a hat trick.  The outcome was predictable with the experienced Pirates players frustrated with the Rock Stars ability to dangle the puck.  However, this is the Pirates first year in this competition and the Rockstars players had many years of experience to develop the skills required for B Grade.  Shots on goal were 37 to the Rockstars, 14 to Pirates.

A Grade – Puckin’ Cows v Vipers  3-3

The 3rd game presented here (only start of the game) saw the Puckin’ Cows front up to the Vipers (without Steve and Gavin Best).  Goaltenders were Brandon Hodge for the Cows, and Scott Elliot for Vipers.  Vipers Liam Yorke would put the Vipers one up early at the 15:50 mark, but late in the period Tyson Pope would even the score at 1-1.  The 2nd period saw Cows birthday boy Cameron Pope score 2 goals, while Vipers Bodie Henderson and Liam Yorke added a goal each.  The only penalties were a couple of tripping penalties, unlike the previous A grade game.  Final score 3-all draw.  Shots on goal for the game were Puckin’ Cows 21, Vipers 11.
