2/08/2026 AIHL Adelaide Adrenaline v Sydney Ice Dogs 5-1

Selected photos from the Australian Ice Hockey League (AIHL) game between the Adelaide Adrenaline and Sydney ice Dogs played on 2/08/2026 at the Ice Arena, Adelaide, South Australia.  Jeremy Friederich would be the starting goaltender for the Adrenaline (with Riley Knapp as the backup) with Ryan Burroughs for the Ice Dogs.  Daniel Chen had made the change from the Adrenaline to the Ice Dogs so it would be interesting to see what sort of reception he would receive from the Adrenaline fans and players.  The Adrenaline had recently acquired the service of Timothy Payne, who had played in the US v Canada series in Australia, and Kyle MacPhail made a return to the side.  The Ice Dogs were up around 4th on the ladder, and the Adrenaline occupied the bottom spot but were hoping for a strong finish to a rather miserable season.

The 1st period was tight with neither side giving an inch, until Ice Dogs Kabore Dunne headed to the penalty box at 12:49 for holding, but the Ice Dogs penalty kill unit did their job.  Coy Prevost scored through a wall of players at the 10:16 mark to put the Adrenaline 1-up (assists Kolby Johnson, Julian Friederich).  The Adrenaline seemed to have some pep in the gameplay and were marching everything the Ice Dogs were serving up, and putting shots on goal, something missing in previous games.  Late in the period the Ice Arena would erupt again in thunderous cheering and applause as Steve Best put the Adrenaline 2 goals to nil (assists Kyle MacPhail, Ryan Foll).  Shots on goal for the period: Adrenaline 15, Ice Dogs 9.

The 2nd period started the same as the first, before Adrenaline’s Zac Steele received an interference minor at 16:16, but the Adrenaline’s penalty kill unit and goaltender Jeremy Friederich kept the 2-goal to nothing lead intact.  Ice Dogs Hungarian import Natan Vertes headed to the penalty box at the halfway mark of the period but there was no change to the score.  Then one half of the Ice Dogs Kuleshov brothers, Dmitri would receive a boarding penalty.  This fired up the Adrenaline and with the penalty running out, Coy Prevost made the most of the powerplay to put the Adrenaline 3 goals to nothing (assists Timothy Payne, goaltender Jeremy Friederich).  Shots on goal for the period: Adrenaline 13, Ice Dogs 10.  Could the Adrenaline maintain this momentum and newly found winning formula?

The 3rd period started with Adrenaline’s Joey MacDougall putting the Adrenaline further ahead at 17:39 mark to now have them leading 4 to nothing.  Where were the Ice Dogs today?  But of course, they were expected to hit the Adrenaline hard.  A tripping penalty to Daniel Pataky didn’t help their cause.  Finally, the Ice Dogs found a way to get onto the scoreboard with about 8mins left in the game.  Their Hungarian import Natan Vertes scored with assists coming from Robert Lachowicz and Kabore Dunn).  They were now hungry, and they amped up the aggression, but the Adrenaline withstood every challenge and were not going to be denied this long overdue victory.  The Ice Dogs pulled their goaltender for an extra attacker with a bit over 2mins remaining, but Adrenaline’s Austin Pickford would bust past 2 defenders and race off to an empty net to score the Adrenaline’ s 5th goal.  Shots on goal for the period: Adrenaline 11, Ice Dogs 9.  The inclusion of Timothy Payne into the Adrenaline side seems to have been one of the sparks the team needed, and of course a fired up Jeremy Friederich being a brick wall to almost everything thrown at him.
