Adelaide AIHL Ice Hockey Players
This page contains male players that have played for Adelaide in the AIHL since 2005 (photos displayed where possible). Players are shown for the last year they played for an AIHL Adelaide team.
The ‘import’ status of several players is denoted by (I). Charlie Huber from New Zealand was an unusual case, as there is an ‘ANZAC’ arrangement and he didn’t count as an import. There is a limitation of 5-6 imports per team.
(I) – denotes import player.
X – denotes 2013 player whose contract was terminated due to major misconducts.
(D) or (R) – denotes development player or rookie (D may not have played a game).
(Def), (For) and (Goal) – Defence, Forward and Goaltender

In regard to imports, Chris Slauenwhite played one game for the Adrenaline, against the Melbourne Mustangs. Kevin Phillips was joined by his talented brother David Phillips, but he returned to the UK to resume training for the NHL feeder league, the AHL league in the US. It was a big loss for the Adrenaline. Kevin Phillips came back to Adelaide 2 years later so is featured in 2012.
2010 – AIHL ADELAIDE ADRENALINE PLAYER’S LAST YEAR
The reason for such a small number of players in this section is that the vast majority of players playing in 2010 progressed to playing in 2011-2013, the exception being Luke Harding, the brother of Josh Harding. Peter Lindgren played for the Avalanche and A’s team in 2008.
2009 – AIHL ADELAIDE ADRENALINE PLAYER’S LAST YEAR
The 2009 AIHL Championship winning team had the talents of imports, Don Grover, Neil Sendecki, Mike Werner, and tough man Jeremy Beirnes who was not shy at dropping the gloves for some biffo. It was sadly the last time Adelaide saw the talents of livewire Mitch Villani suited up for an AIHL team. Eager Jarrod McDonnell also finished his AIHL career.
2008 – AIHL ADELAIDE A’s PLAYERS LAST YEAR
The Adelaide A’s team came about due to the demise of the much loved Adelaide Avalanche team, through a series of events that saw the Team Owner manage to lose the team’s sponsorship and general support for the team. Many Adelaide fans still have not forgiven the owner for the demise of their beloved team. The rights and jerseys bearing Adelaide Avalanche remained with the owner. The Adelaide A’s was a very quickly hobbled together effort to keep an Adelaide team in the AIHL competition. The A’s resumed on the same points that the Avalanche left off on, much to the annoyance of some other AIHL teams. The A’s/Avalanche finished 2nd to last in the 2008 seaso, Adelaide’s lowest ever result. The A’s played wearing the local Adelaide league’s spare Blackhawks jerseys.
The A’s utilised the imports brought into the Adelaide Avalanche team by the previous team owner. David Huxley saw out the season on crutches which pretty much summed up Adelaide ice hockey for that year….broken! Import Blair Bourgealt had one notable game scoring 4 goals. Eric Lien, former reserve goalie for the Avalanche decided on a change of scenery as a forward, leaving goaltending duties to Import Christopher Elf. Juniors such as Andrew Zolotarev were starting to make a mark.
2008 – AIHL ADELAIDE AVALANCHE PLAYERS IN LAST YEAR
2008 was a frustrating period for Adelaide Avalanche fans. The team was ‘loaded’ with junior players (or as I call it local Falcons team players) due to the walkout of several senior favourite Avalanche players following the sacking of NHL’er and Australian coach Steve McKenna by the team owner, Allen. Corey Smith filled the coaching shoes for 2008. The Avalanche surprisingly played all of their home games first, the reason became obvious later on….no money!
AIHL ADELAIDE AVALANCHE PLAYERS OF 2007
2007 saw some great imports in the Avalanche lineup with Ryan Remillard, Mike van den Bosch, Brian Ballman, the much hyped up hitman Mal Angelstad, and Alan the owner’s mate Simon Leach who may have been a little past the use by date. This year also saw the young Sean Greer playing for the team. Despite the end result it was a fun year.
AIHL ADELAIDE AVALANCHE PLAYERS OF 2006
Last of the ‘great’ Adelaide Avalanche periods before the team entered its dark period after the team was sold and the Avalanche name ended in 2008. The previous owners Steve Oddy and James Thilthorpe had built up a fun and exciting team under the coaching skills of NHL’er Steve McKenna and also John Botterill.
