Selected photos from the Adelaide Summer League Division A Semi Final Game1 between the Unicorns (1st) and the Huskies (4th). Some penalties in the period to the Huskies gave the Unicorns the powerplay (Akshay Shankar-Noble for roughing and Patrick Riley for tripping) to get onto the board, but it would be the Huskies that would strike first and second blood through Mat Baschiera. In his frustration Unicorns Baxter Prosser roughed up an opponent with 4secs remaining to give the Huskies the powerplay in the 2nd period. Shots on goal for the period were 8 to the Huskies and 5 to the Unicorns.
Huskies Jasmine Lister didn’t waste time in the 2nd period and scored on the powerplay to put the Huskies in a strong position early. The Unicorns would need to dig deep and find a way past the Huskies defence and the excellent goaltending of Tori Kellette. Straight after the goal Huskies Patrick Riley was done for roughing but the Unicorns still could not find a way through. Unicorns James Yeend’s penalty for tripping at 11:55 and Shankar-Noble for hooking at 2:41 did not alter the scoreline. Shots on goal for the period were Huskies 9 to the frustrated Unicorns 2. Up to now the Unicorns leading scorers Prosser and Sam Stouppos were well held by the Huskies defence.
Third period and it was time to unleash the beast! Two quick goals by Unicorns Prosser suddenly made the game very interesting with Unicorns now trailing by only one and with a spring in their step. However at 9:00 mark Huskies Brent Bradshaw sealed the deal for the Huskies and they would go on to win 4-2, with the officials putting their whistles away for the rest of the period, or did the players behave themselves? Shots on goal for the game were Huskies 25, Unicorns 14. The Unicorns would need to find a way to get more shots on goal in Game 2.
