Just a few days from Sunday’s game due to other commitments. Rush’s Jordan Kulbida would open the scoring for the game only 90secs into the game and would be the only scorer in the 1st period.
The 2nd period saw the Lightning strike back early through Allie Fischer, and then go one ahead with Sharnita Crompton scoring 4mins into the period. At 12:09 Rush’s Jamie Lunn would tie it all up again, but Lightning’s Annmarie Fitzgerald would restore the 1-goal lead at the 10:20 mark. With Fitzgerald and Fischer in the Lightning’s sin bin, Kirsty Venus used the 5-on-3 advantage and evened it up again. Late in the period Lightning’s Sharnita Crompton got a 5min penalty for high-sticking and a game misconduct.
Third period was tight and two early penalties to the Rush didn’t see a change in the score until the 4:20 mark when Lightning’s Abi Brown scored unassisted to break the deadlock. This was followed up a minute later with team mate Allie Fischer scoring their 5th goal and making it difficult for the Rush to mount a late challenge with time running out. The Rush pulled goaltender Emma Moonen for the extra attacker, but Lightning’s Courtney Mahoney found the net. The frustration for the Rush continued, with Tiffany Venning getting a hooking penalty with 30secs remaining and the team mate Jordan Kulbida receiving a 5min major for kicking and a game misconduct. Shots on goal for the game saw the Rush dominate 34 to 25.
