Selected photos from the Elite Summer Ice Hockey League game between Voltage and Cowboys played on 16/01/2026 at the Ice Arena Adelaide. This league is a checking league for Winter Club A grade and Premier League players from the Ice Arena in Adelaide, South Australia. A handful of these players also play for the Adelaide Adrenaline in the Australian Ice Hockey League. Prior to the start of the season players that nominated to play in this league underwent a draft process to hopefully create 3 even teams. The league currently comprises 3 teams and is played on Friday nights. It is similar to the style of the 2 leagues played in Adelaide during the Covid era. Goaltenders for the game had Jeremy Friederich for the Cowboys, and Matus Trnka for the Voltage. Cowboys Marcel McGuinness opened the scoring for the Cowboys at 9:32 (assists Nathaniel Benson, Jeremy Friederich). Voltage’s Zac Steele headed to the penalty box for kneeing at 7:26 and using the powerplay Cowboys Shaun Dosanjh scored the Cowboys 2nd goal (assists Benson, Steve Best). Shots on goal for the period: Cowboys 9, Voltage 6).
In the 2nd period and only a penalty to Voltage’s Zac Steele and teammate Ronald Goret IV for interference troubled the people in the scoring booth, ie no goals resulted. Shots on goal for the period: Cowboys 11, Voltage 7. The Voltage were far more evenly matched in this game against the Cowboys than the Broncos the week before.
In the 3rd period the Cowboys fell foul of referees as first Jeff Pellerin (holding), then Jared Siemens (slashing) and then Tristan Reese (interference) headed to the penalty box to give the Voltage a real chance to level the score. And on the last powerplay, Ryan Foll would put the Voltage onto the scoreboard (unassisted). Things got very heated when Voltage’s Zac Steele cross-checked his opponent and skirmish involving several players resulted. Steele received a 5min major penalty. With the clock winding down the Voltage called back goaltender Matus Trnka to the bench for the extra attacker. With 30secs to go in the game, Cowboys Nathaniel Benson would score the empty netter to give his team a 3-1 win. Shots on goal for the period: Voltage 9, Cowboys 7.
Next week’s game will be interesting to see if the Cowboys can stay on top of the Broncos or fall by the wayside.
