The morning of the 22/02/2026 saw the Blackwood Blaze A grade and B grade inline hockey finals being played, with Mike (Baz) Bassell’s boombox entertaining the spectators.  The games were separated by and exhibition games of goaltenders playing each as skaters, dressed in the goalie gear.

B Grade Grand Final – Beavers v Falcons

The B grade final was between the Beavers and Falcons.  In net for the Beavers was “Brooksy” and for the Falcons, Rory Moffat.  A mere 16secs into the game and Beavers Michael Giordano rifled one past goaltender Moffat (assist Bonnie Mechan).  That would be the only score in 1st period.  The 2nd period saw 5 goals scored, 3 to the Beavers (Patrick Pedder, Mike Giordano, Rob Gunn) and 2 to the Falcons (2 to Davis Irvin-Speck).  The 3rd period had Mike Giordano add his hat trick goal and Mike Bassell would contribute one of his own for the Beavers to hold a commanding 6-2 lead going into the last period.  The 4th period and Falcons long-haired Josh Greeneklee would peg one back with 4:41 to play.  However the Falcons joy was shortlived as David Coupe added another for the Beavers a short time later.  A late hat trick goal to Davis Irvin-Speck saw the gallant Falcons go down 4-7 to the Beavers.

The crowd was well entertained by the goaltenders in the exhibition game with Falcons Rory Moffat scoring 2 goals and Rock Stars Chris Jose scoring a memorable goal.  There were other goals too and it was good to see the desperation and skill shown in this other fun event.

A Grade Grand Final – Burners v Vintage Red Tins

A memory card glitched sometime in the Goaltenders game resulting in no photos being written to the memory card for the entire A Grade game, or if any were they were not retrievable!   A Grade’s Burners came to play as they would put on 8 unanswered goals before the Red Tins posted the last 2 goals of the game.
